Jesus, Our Best English Teacher

Dawn SmithBlog

As teachers we come from many different places, with diverse languages and experiences, but Jesus is the best English Teacher—and the best teacher of every language. He helps us understand not only words but also the heart behind them. Just as He taught His disciples with patience and love, He teaches us to listen, to speak kindly, and to learn from one another. We must lean on Him to help us communicate with grace, even when it’s hard.

Many of our students are in pain and God wants to bring healing through us. Yet many of us carry our own hidden hurts—disappointments, fears, or losses. Jesus, the Great Healer sometimes does it through our acts of love and service to others. He came to bind up the brokenhearted and to bring us hope, but we must open our hearts to His gentle touch, knowing that He understands every wound and promises to bring healing in His time.

Jesus compared the kingdom of God to a treasure hidden in a field, a pearl of great price, and yeast that transforms the dough. In the same way, God’s kingdom often grows in hidden, quiet ways—through our small acts of kindness, our friendships with students, and our prayers. Yes, Jesus the great Teacher performed miracles and spoke to crowds, but He also worked powerfully in small gestures: touching a leper, chatting with a Samaritan woman by a well, washing dirty feet. We must also look for those small but powerful moments of God’s presence among our students.

Take a few minutes to meditate on Jesus, the Best Teacher of all nations and languages. How did He teach? What was His purpose and motivation? What do you need to emulate?
